Athanasios Maras, MD, is a child and adolescent and adult psychiatrist and Director of the Yulius Academy. He has a long standing experience in adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy. His research interests focus on Autism, ADHD, Trauma & Attachment, Transition Psychiatry and interventions in children with Special Educational Needs.
As the director of Yulius Academy, he is responsible for the innovative and scientific development of Yulius, a large organization for Mental Health and Special Education in the Netherlands. Under his directorship, a number of grants have been awarded to the Academy for research projects focusing on treatment and special needs educations. He is the project leader of several nationally funded projects focusing on ADHD, Autism, Tourette’s Disorder and interventions for special needs education. He currently participates in the “Milestone”- project, an European research project aiming to gain better insight in transition pathways from child to adult mental health care services and to improve health outcomes after following transition.
Dr. Maras has published several peer-reviewed articles as well as books and chapters. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Dutch Knowledge Centre for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Dutch Society of Psychiatry and lecturer at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Besides his experience in treatment and research, Dr. Maras has held different managerial positions in the past.
